Its called a whatnow?

Following the fiasco of Steve Balmer accidently alluding to a new Xbox in 2010 it got me thinking, ”What would it be called?”

Gaming consoles have had some pretty fantastic names as well as some absolute shockers. I’m still not sold on ”Xbox” and prefer just to call it the 360. Genesis, Saturn and there’s just something about the word Atari that makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. Not because I loved the system, just the word rolls off the tongue..Maybe that’s just me?

It seems that the trend in this generation is going to be slight iterations of consoles that we already have. Nintendo showed us all that this system can work with launches of the DS, DS lite and DSi and even earlier Sony with the PS2 slim providing a nice booster shot to the systems sales. Microsoft was pretty quick to abandon the original Xbox when news of the 360 emerged. So there was never a real chance for the system to change at all considering that development had begun for its bigger brother who hadn’t even been released. Natal seems to be the sign that Microsoft will follow the paths of its competitors and release a slimmer, quieter and red ring resistant console with natal built in or at least bundled.

With about one or two max cycles of consoles left in us before the inevitable OnLive system takes over us all and locks our brains securely into the ”cloud” even rumor of a new console had the brain juices flowing. I’ve narrowed it down to a few of the ones that sounded the worst and didn’t infringe on the most copyright.

Microsoft:
”Live2”
”360…Again”
”Revolution” (Oh yes I did)
”Xbox 3”- Please no.
”Halo House”
”Xbox Carbon”- Again, the whole Xbox thing. The 360 doesn’t even have an X on it anyway!

Sony:
”PS4/Playstation 4”- Original I know
”Home 4”
”The station of playing”
”Red, Blu and Green Ray…4”

Nintendo:
”Wii2/We too”
”Us”
”Moneymaker V2”
”Ninmarzeldogfit..motion”
As you can tell most of these are terrible as the general trend of console names have been. It seems like the easy way out for the big 3 would be to slap on some army alphabet and a number (Omega 3, Beta 2) but im hoping for something new and exciting when the time finally comes around for muggings in line , smashing new consoles, mass hardware failures, shortages, excited children around the Christmas tree and the overly stressed EB employee having to deal with 5 angry mothers at the same time that the names of the products they are buying actually are exciting and not blatant copouts o their predecessors.

If we see the ”Halo House” on shelves next year, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
